Talegaon: Weekend destination

An appetite for an ideal weekend home within affordable budgets is definitely satiated by Talegaon. Spared by the populace urbanized chaos, nestled amidst greener pastures and breathing fresh air and pollution free environment makes Talegaon an ideal weekend home destination for Mumbaikars and Punekars alike. Be is a bungalow type or row houses or flat types apartment systems, Talegaon caters to a wide range of customers to suit varying budgets.

Talegaon or ‘Lake Town ‘ as its literal translation in English would be, is well known for its beautiful climate. There are many lakes in and around the town. Its salubrious climate combined with good local infrastructure has made it preferred destination for city dwellers, especially for people seeking peace and pollution free environment.

Conveniently located at a distance of 135 kms from Mumbai, a couple of hours pleasant drive through the Bhor ghat along the Mumbai Pune express highway makes Talegaon easily accessible from Mumbai. For Punekars, it is just 32 kms away. Besides road, Talegaon is well connected to Mumbai and Pune via railways as well. Local train services plying between Pune and Lonavala approximately every hour halts at Talegaon. There is also a proposal for an international airport near Talegaon.

Maharashtra Government and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) have drawn up a plan to ensure that the State puts forth a total biotechnology revolution. Since the Government wants to establish Pune as a technology hub, MIDC has started acquiring large areas of land to set up Biotechnology and Infotech Parks between Talegaon and Vadgaon as there is little space in Pune. MIDC is also developing over 250 acres of land at Talegaon as a floriculture park for production of superior quality flowers like tulips and orchids, which are in demand in international markets. The area is situated in the Agriculture Export Zone declared by the Government of India and the internal infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity

Another aspect that gives Talegaon an edge is that it has regular schools of high standards in both the Marathi and English medium. Talegaon also has an international standard school ‘Heritage’ at Ambi. ‘Heritage’ is being developed on about 40 acres of land with all facilities and an emphasis on overall academic, aesthetic, creative, social and physical development of children.

Maharashtra Institute of Medical Education and Research (MIMER), medical college was established in 1995 at Talegaon. The 500-bed multi-specialty Talegaon General Hospital supplements all practical and internship requirements of the undergraduate program. Talegaon also is home to Tolani Maritime Institute campus providing research and educational services to the industry. Organizations like Indrayani University and scores of other polytechnic and technological institutes are based at Talegaon.

Also looking at the soaring industrial ventures in and around Talegaon, the abundance of employment avenues here are inviting. Chakan, stones throw away from Talegaon, has already witnessed lot of industrial activity and caters to the young employment seeking population of the country. Besides, auto giants like JCB, GM (General Motors), Audi, Volkswagen have already set up their roots and others planning to do so in Talegaon. The availability of water, government policies for this area, proximity to the Mumbai Pune express way (NH4), at a distance of around 20 kms from proposed International airport and a ready market of Pune and Mumbai. General Motors India (GMI) is kicking off work on its over Rs 1,300-crore Greenfield plant at Talegaon and yet another new plant is set to come up on 300 acres of land, which is likely to start production by the third quarter of 2008.

Also, most of the working force from the industrial twin city of Pimpri-Chinchwad prefers to stay here, for the ease of commuting and better ambience away from the chaotic lifestyle, as a relaxation after long days work. Increasing demand and strong middle income group population in Talegaon is commanding better infrastructure for the town.

It’s a beautiful town with lush greenery and Sahyadri Ranges around it. Indrayani & Pavana are major Rivers flowing by Talegaon. It is extremely well connected to two major cities in India, Pune, Mumbai and Khed (Rajgurunagar). Nestled on the Deccan plateau, almost 330 ft higher than Lonavala gives it a cool and pleasant climate all the year round; an ideal weekend home destination.

Talegaon has consistently been rated high for local infrastructure. Its local municipal corporation follows best practices for governance. This has resulted in better roads, water, and safety for people of Talegaon.

The property market in Talegaon is just beginning. Talegaon is one of the fastest developing areas near Pune. Because of shortage of land in Pune city, people prefer Talegaon. It is considered to be one of the most sought after investment option at affordable prices and invariably providing good returns considering the increasing demands.
